Koyel Bhattacharya is an Indian Classical Vocalist in the
Hindustani music tradition. She started her learning from
home, under the tutelage of her mother Smt. Kanta
Bhattacharya in Gwalior Gharana. She also learns from
legendary Pt.Manas Chakraborty in Kotali Gharana.
Presently She is learning from her Guru Ustad Rashid Khan
in Rampur Sahaswan Gharana. Koyel was acknowledged for
her skillful Khayal performances as she adopted the Rampur
Sahaswan style of singing, which features medium-slow
tempos, a full-throated voice, and intricate rhythmic play.
She also has exceptional expertise in the use of Sargam,
Taankari, and Tarana. She has a unique tonal quality and
singing style.
She completed her Graduation and M.A. in vocal Classical
Music from Rabindra Bharati University and ranked 1st
class.
She received the Akhil Bhartiya Pratibha Puraskar from The
Art & Cultural Trust of India, a National scholarship, and a
Junior Research fellowship award from the Ministry of
Culture (Govt. of India), Dr. Bani Gupta Memorial Award
from The Rotary Club of Calcutta, 1st position in Khayal
from 'Yuva Utsav' State level competition (Govt. of West
Bengal).
Koyel is a leading female vocalist of her generation. She
performed at many prestigious music festivals in the country
and with several foreign tours under her belt.
In her musical career, she is blessed to be in the
audience and work with a few of the greatest names in
Hindustani music, including Pt. Birju Maharaj, and Pt.
Vijay Kichlu, Pt. Swapan Shiva, Pt. Jyoti Goho, Pt.
Subhankar Banerjee, Pt. Kaivalya Kumar Gaurav.Koyel
is also a well-known lead vocalist in television and film,
under the direction of the renowned music director Shri
Debojyoti Mishra. Now she is a HOD of TutorsValley, UK.
